Our company has been significantly involved in the introduction and acceptance of airborne laser scanning (LiDAR) technology for the survey of pipeline corridors in Germany, with the use of the FLIMAP system from FUGRO Aerial Mapping. Today, the use of FLi-MAP and LiDAR is standard on most new pipeline projects in Germany for nearly all of the major gas supply companies. In comparison to classical route surveying techniques cost savings of up to 20% are achievable. The data is collected much faster, is much denser and detailed and can be used in many ways. For example if a reroute or a variation of the planed route is needed it will not be necessary to perform a new field survey if it is within the corridor of the LiDAR survey. This is a significant time and cost which is highly appreciated by our customers.
